About

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, I moved to the California Bay Area after college. There, I started a dog walking and pet sitting business, an experience which was so unexpectedly outrageous that I had to write a book about it.

But not before meeting my future husband, selling the dog walking business, and attending Mills College in Oakland where I earned my MFA in Creative Nonfiction and English. I then discovered the magical nonprofit organization that is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), which became my work home for almost five years. (For those of you not yet in the know, NaNoWriMo is a free, international, web-based program that provides the structure, encouragement, and tools for over half a million aspiring novelists to write the rough draft of a manuscript in a month. No kidding!)

During my tenure with the magnificent folks at NaNoWriMo, my colleagues and I collaborated on a writer’s workbook, Ready, Set, Novel!, for anyone who ever wanted to write a novel and had no idea where to begin. (Not only will it give you a jump-start, but you can also do some coloring, too, if you so choose.)

In 2012, my husband and I moved to Zurich, Switzerland. On Swiss time, I was able to finish that previously mentioned book about the pet care industry. It’s called Sleeps with Dogs. (And I really did.)
